Round Table Presidential Ball 01/03/08

After months of planning the Round Table Presidential Ball finally arrived.

Held in Glasgow on 1 March 2008 at the Thistle Hotel, President Graham welcomed 300 guests and friends to join him in a celebration of Round Table and his year as President.

The night kicked off in an unusual way for Round Table with the guests arriving promptly, greeted with a Scottish welcome and a whisky cocktail, whilst Graham, was still frantically getting dressed having left the downstairs bar only fifteen minutes before the function started!

President Graham joined the main drinks reception, held in the foyer of the ballroom and three quarters of an hour later dinner was called. To start the night's proceedings a quick game of black and white (heads and tails) was played, the proceeds for which going directly to Graham's chosen President's Charity, the Association of Children's Hospices (ACH). A four-course meal followed, which was rounded off with the minimum amount of speeches much to the delight of the guests.

Scottish actor and DJ Tom Urie, got the nights entertainment off to a great start playing some of the more popular Scottish dances, The Gay Gordon's; Strip the Willow; and the Dashing White Sergeant. Following on from Tom Urie, former Scotland International Rugby star John Beattie took to the stage with his band, along with his friend Michelle McManus, who was at home in Glasgow that night (for those who don't know Michelle was the winner of the 2003 Pop Idol competition).

John and his band had the dance floor full within seconds with everyone enjoying their mix of pop and rock classics. After an hour or so of dancing a short break ensued before the second band Feeva took to the stage. Again the dance floor quickly filled up with the all girl trio entertaining us all with their range of songs from the past five decades complete with costume changes and big pink wigs.

To end the evening's entertainment, Tom Urie took over the disco for those who were still able to dance. A final song of Auld Lang Side found President Graham and his wife Johann in the middle of the floor surrounded by their guests.

Graham and Johann would like to thank the Presidential Liaison Committee for all the hard work and efforts in planning for the Ball, their sponsors especially thefinewineshop.co.uk and The Torrance Partnership; and all their guests; Tablers, Circlers and friends who made the evening so enjoyable. They are really looking forward to seeing you all again in Leeds.
