Bicester and Banbury Cross "Try a Sport day"

During the recent school summer holidays Bicester 684 and Banbury Cross each sponsored a sports day run by Cherwell District Council's sports development team. The event came about in Bicester a few years ago as an alternative to the traditional Community Services Day which had become more difficult to put on for children with the need for CRB checks risk assessments etc.

For the last few years Bicester 684 Bicester Round Table have sponsored Cherwell District Council's Try-a-Sport day, and this year Banbury Cross 1179 joined in, sponsoring a day for the first time. Both days were over-booked with over 80 children aged between 8 and 11 attending. The kids had the opportunity to try new sports including tennis & hockey, golf and basketball.

Bicester 684's Press Officer Simeon Coney from BRT said "Attendance has increased every year, and this year with the days being held just before Britain's success at the Olympics it was great to see more kids than ever taking an interest in sport - hopefully fostering a new wave of world champions"

Banbury Cross 1179's Chairman Andy Carey also said "It was a really good day and all of the kids enjoyed it. We also had an interview with local radio station Touch FM and managed to promote Table a bit. We hope to repeat the event next year".
